Effective 14 September 2026 · Applies to the MummaNest app for iOS and Android
The short version
MummaNest is a support companion for mothers. We collect what you choose to share so the app can personalise guidance, run Anna (the AI companion), and connect you with other moms.
You decide what we may use, purpose by purpose, and you can withdraw any consent at any time in Privacy & consents.
Anna's replies, and the safety checks on community posts and messages, are powered by OpenAI. Nothing is sent to OpenAI until the app has told you about it and you have agreed. See section 4.
We never sell your data and we show no advertising. There are no advertising or analytics trackers in the app.
Sensitive details are encrypted field by field on servers in India. Your diary is private to you.
You can request a copy of your data and delete your account from inside the app. Deletion completes after a 30-day grace period you can cancel.
MummaNest ("MummaNest", "we", "us") is a mobile app that offers gentle guidance, an AI companion, trackers, a private diary and a community for women who are trying to conceive, pregnant, or caring for a newborn. The app is built and operated from India by the MummaNest team. For the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 we are the data fiduciary for the information described here. You can reach us using the details in Contact.
This policy covers the MummaNest app and the services behind it. It does not cover third-party websites or services that the app may link to. Your use of the app is also governed by our Terms of Use, which include our community rules.
2. What we collect
Almost everything we hold is information you type into the app yourself. We do not read your phone's contacts, photos, location or microphone in this version of the app.

Generated as you use the app
Some of this information is sensitive by nature, including pregnancy and childbirth information, information about your baby, and health details. We treat all of it with the protections described in Security, and we only process it for the purposes you have agreed to.
3. How we use it, and the consents behind it
MummaNest is built around consent for each purpose. During onboarding you choose the essentials; the rest are switched on only when you use the related feature, and every one can be withdrawn in My MummaNest → Privacy & consents.
Personalise my experience: use your stage, interests and profile to tailor the Daily Nest, Wisdom recommendations and affirmations.
AI assistant: send your messages to Anna, with your stage, pregnancy week, your baby's age range and your app language, to our AI provider OpenAI so Anna can reply. You give this when you tap Agree & continue on the Anna screen. See section 4.
AI memory: reserved for a future feature that would let Anna remember past conversations. It has no effect today and does not change what is sent to OpenAI.
Wellness tracking: keep your wellbeing entries.
Diary AI assist and diary safety check: reserved for future features. They have no effect today, and nothing from your diary is sent to an AI provider.
Community participation: post and reply in The Village. The text of your posts and replies is checked for safety by OpenAI before it is published. See Safety screening.
Matching: suggest other moms to you and you to them, using stage, interests, age range and the coarse distance band you allow. Any note you add to a connection request is checked for safety by OpenAI before it is sent.
Messaging: exchange private messages with moms you have connected with. The text of your messages is checked for safety by OpenAI before it is delivered.
Doctor sharing: keep your care contacts.
Child data: store your baby's details and trackers.
Marketing or engagement: reminders and product updates. Off by default.
Independently of these consents, we process the minimum needed to run the service: creating and securing your account, preventing abuse, responding to support requests, and meeting legal obligations.
4. Anna, safety checks and our AI provider
MummaNest uses one third-party AI provider: OpenAI, L.L.C., based in San Francisco, USA. We use OpenAI for two things only: writing Anna's replies, and checking community posts and messages for safety. The app never contacts OpenAI directly. Requests go from our own servers to OpenAI's API, and we send only the information listed below.
Anna, the AI companion
Anna is clearly identified as AI. Nothing is sent to OpenAI for Anna until you have read the Anna screen that explains this and tapped Agree & continue. That gives your AI assistant consent. You can withdraw it at any time in Privacy & consents, and Anna then stops working until you agree again.

Details
What we send
Your messages to Anna. Before sending, we automatically remove anything that looks like an email address or phone number.
The recent conversation, up to the last 12 turns, so Anna can follow along.
Context from your profile: your stage (trying to conceive, pregnant or new mom), your pregnancy week, your baby's age range and your app language. This is sent whenever you use Anna.
Anna's reply, sent once more so OpenAI can suggest follow-up questions you can tap.
What we never send
Your name, email address, birth year, your baby's name, your diary, your private messages with other moms, or your doctor and care contacts, unless you type them into a message to Anna yourself.
Who receives it
OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA), through its API, called from our servers.
Why
Only to write Anna's reply and suggest follow-up questions.
Anna is limited to pregnancy, parenting and wellbeing topics, and will point you to India crisis helplines if a message suggests you are in distress. Your conversations are stored on our servers so you can revisit them. You can delete any conversation from Chat history.
Safety screening of community posts and messages
To keep The Village kind and safe, we check what members write before others see it. The app tells you about this check before you post or send, in the composer and when you agree to community participation and messaging.
Topic
Details
What we send
Only the text of: Village posts (title and body) and replies, private messages between moms, and notes added to connection requests.
What we never send
Your name, email address, or any other account or profile details. Anything that looks like an email address or phone number is removed from the text first.
Who receives it
OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA), through its API, called from our servers.
Why
To classify the text for safety concerns, such as harassment, hate or self-harm, before it is published or delivered. A post flagged as possibly unsafe is held and not shown to other members.
How OpenAI protects your information
OpenAI gives your information the same level of protection as this policy:
Terms. OpenAI's standard API terms, which govern our use of its API, allow it to use what we send only to provide its service to us, meet its legal obligations and prevent abuse.
No training. Under OpenAI's API data policy, data sent through the API is not used to train OpenAI's models.
Limited retention. Under the same policy, OpenAI keeps API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse, and then deletes them, unless the law requires it to keep them longer.
Encryption. Everything we send to OpenAI travels over an encrypted TLS connection.
If we ever change AI provider, we will update this policy first, and we will ask you again in the app before any of your information is sent to the new provider.
5. Community, matching and messaging
What others see. Your first name, an age range, your stage and your interests may be shown to other moms in Find moms. Your email, birth year, exact location, pregnancy details, baby details, diary and Anna conversations are never shown to other users.
Anonymous posting. You can post in The Village anonymously; your name is then not shown to other members. Our moderation team can still see who wrote a post if it is reported.
Zero tolerance. Our Terms of Use, which you agree to before signing in, allow no objectionable content and no abusive members.
Content filtering. The text of posts, replies, private messages and connection notes is automatically checked for safety before it is published or delivered, as described in Safety screening. Posts flagged as possibly unsafe are held and not shown to others.
Hiding. You can hide any Village thread or reply from your own Village straight away, from its ⋮ menu. It stays hidden only for you; reporting something also hides it for you.
Reporting. You can report any Village thread, reply or private message as harassment, spam, inappropriate or other. When something is reported, our moderation team can see the reported content and who wrote it.
Blocking. You can block a member from a Village thread or reply, a private conversation, or your connections list. Their posts, replies and conversation are hidden from you immediately, any connection between you ends, and our moderation team is notified to review it. The member you block is not told.
What our team does. We review every report and block within 24 hours. We remove objectionable content, and we may ban the member responsible. A banned member can no longer post, reply, message or connect, and their community content is removed.
Moderator access. Alerts sent to our team contain no user content, only the type of report and a case number. Reported content is reviewed inside the app, only by accounts with a moderator role.
Discoverability. You can switch off being suggested to other moms, and switch off sharing a coarse distance band, in Matching preferences.
6. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers. We share data only with the service providers that help us run MummaNest, each bound to use it solely to provide their service to us:
Firebase Authentication (Google LLC): verifies your Google or Apple sign-in.
Apple: if you use Sign in with Apple.
OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA): generates Anna's replies and screens community posts and messages for safety. Exactly what is sent, and how it is protected, is set out in section 4.
Cloudflare: secures the connection between the app and our servers.
Our hosting provider in India: runs the servers and database.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or to enforce our Terms of Use. If MummaNest is ever transferred to another organisation, your data would move with it under this policy and we would tell you first.
7. Where your data lives
Your account data is stored on servers located in India. The text we send to OpenAI for Anna and for safety screening (see section 4) is processed by OpenAI, including in the United States. Requests to our sign-in provider may also be processed on servers outside India, including in the United States. We rely on those providers' terms of service and security commitments to protect your information when this happens.
8. Security
Sensitive fields, including pregnancy details, baby details, health notes, diary entries, messages and care contacts, are encrypted field by field in our database, with keys managed separately from the data.
All traffic between the app and our servers uses TLS.
Sign-in uses short-lived tokens that are rotated; you can see and sign out every device from Devices & sessions.
Security-relevant actions are logged so we can investigate misuse.
No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
9. Retention and deletion
While you have an account, we keep your information so the app can work for you. You can delete individual items, such as diary entries, Anna conversations and care contacts, at any time.
Deleting your account: go to My MummaNest → Delete my account. Your account enters a 30-day grace period during which you can change your mind by choosing Stay in my nest. After the grace period we permanently destroy the encryption keys for your data and erase your records, which makes them unrecoverable.
What may remain: minimal security and audit records, and anything we must keep to meet a legal obligation, retained only for as long as that obligation lasts. Posts you made in The Village are anonymised rather than shown under your name.
10. Your rights and choices
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and similar laws elsewhere, you have the right to access, correct and erase your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to have your grievances addressed. Most of these you can exercise directly in the app:
Access: My MummaNest → Export my data requests a copy of your information.
Correction: edit your details in My profile and My babies.
Withdraw consent: Privacy & consents, purpose by purpose.
Erasure: Delete my account, described above.
Notifications: reminders and quiet hours in Notifications.
Grievances: open a ticket in Help & support or email us. We aim to respond within 7 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India or the supervisory authority where you live.
11. Children
MummaNest is for adults and is not directed at children. Information about your baby is entered by you, as the parent or guardian, and is processed only with your Use my baby's details consent. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it.
12. Not medical advice
MummaNest, including Anna, offers support and general information, not medical, mental-health or legal advice, and does not replace your doctor. Anna is an AI and may be wrong. If you are in crisis or facing an emergency, contact your local emergency services or a helpline right away.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect.
